about

I was particularly getting tired and run down in my day job in London's West End. It was dark when I got on the tube in the morning and dark when I came home in the evening. Voices were loud and aggressive. I went back to my family in Derbyshire for Christmas and on the first evening sang carols outside up on the village hillside. There was a full moon. The sky was extraordinarily quiet. Bright, bright stars peeking out of black. When the small choir sang in a myriad of harmonies (who was left to sing the main tune?) the sound resonated into the clear air and it sounded so much more than the sum of our voices. My relatives of all ages were singing and I kind of felt there was a presence of relatives past joining in too. Eerily beautiful and magical. Somehow it lifted me. I was singing. I'd had no time for singing in London. I felt revived and connected to my ancestors singing in this very place, the moon and the countryside, the place of my birth

lyrics

Don't you talk to me like I'm made of stone
The coldness in your voice cuts me to the bone
I'm not half the girl I used to be
You take the life out of me

I get up, I go to work, I sleep
A never ending cycle, I've no time to think of me
These city cables are strangling I can hardly breathe
I've forgotten how to sing
I've no time for singing

Sing choirs of Angels
Sing in exhaltation

Now I know that I am not alone
and I can live my life
I can make it on my own
I know I've found the girl that I used to be
'cause love stirs once again in me
and my soul sings in angel's company
I take my wings
and I break free
